Pledge/Rush News
On October 21st, Alpha Kappa Psi inducted 20 new pledges into its fall Nu Pledge Class, out of a record number of applicants. Brothers and pledges met and bonded through U&Iās and social challenges, such as a study break with Insomnia cookies.The Pledge/Rush committee hosted a trip to Chicago's Christkindlmarket, also aimed at cementing a bond between members of the new pledge class and brothers. We are excited for these pledges to go through initiation and to share our knowledge with them!
Professional News
The Marketing Committee recently kicked off its partnership with Adobe Creative Cloud, and held a campus-wide workshop on how to take and edit LinkedIn headshots. Brother Joey Leung headed the workshop and used a live demonstration to teach students how to use Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom to create professional-quality headshots. Aside from the Adobe Creative Cloud partnership, other professional events included a dinner with members of EY-Parthenon, recruiting workshops, and professional interviews with pledges.
Service News
This quarter brothers showed their appreciation for the University of Chicago Security staff members! Brothers gathered for a goodie bag assembling event, and packing each bag with goods such as hand warmers, cookies, and thank you notes. In keeping with the Thanksgiving spirit, brothers also went out to the security personnel stationed on the streets late at night to offer the gifts and words of gratitude!
Social News
Alpha Kappa Psi kicked off the new school year with a barbecue at City Hyde Park. At the barbecue, brothers were able to mingle with potential rushees, as well as discuss their various summer experiences with one another. Other social events sprinkled throughout the quarter included going to UChicago SASA's Diwali celebration together, a Thanksgiving potluck, and a fraternity-wide secret santa gift exchange!
Fall quarter also featured many sweet opportunities as the social committee members planned four different study breaks. Sara Chan and Vicky Xie baked delicious and festive desserts for our hardworking brothers, and their brownies were very popular!
